North By Northwest is natuurlijk één van de beroemdste films van Alfred Hitchcock, de 'master of suspense'. Gary Grant speelt een man die, zoals zo vaak bij Hitchcock, onschuldig verdacht wordt van een misdrijf. Hij moet zijn onschuld bewijzen, maar een bende zware jongens onder leiding van James Mason, zit hem op de hielen. Gelukkig beleeft hij een vlotte romance met de fraaie blondine Eva Marie Saint. Klassieke scènes zijn ondermeer de beschieting in het korenveld door een sproei-vliegtuigje en het spannende slot waarin onze held aan Mount Rushmore bungelt.
