John Klein (Richard Gere) z'n vrouw komt op mysterieuze wijze om het leven. Haar laatste woorden 'Zag je het niet?' malen door zijn hoofd. Wat zag hij niet? In zijn zoektocht naar de waarheid komt hij terecht in het stadje Pleasant Point waar hij enkel op nog meer onverklaarbare gebeurtenissen en vreemde verschijnselen stuit. Samen met agente Connie Parker probeert John Klein het mysterie te ontrafelen en de bewoners te behoeden voor een grote ramp....
