The Imitation Game vertelt het verhaal over het leven en het werk van een van de grootste onbekende helden uit de Britse geschiedenis, namelijk Alan Turing. Turing was een pionier op het gebied van computertechniek en de befaamde kraak van de Duitse Enigma-code wordt aan hem toegekend. In de film voeren Turing en zijn briljante team een race tegen de klok in hun geheime kantoor Bletchley Park, tijdens de donkerste dagen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
