Caesar en zijn apen worden in een dodelijk conflict gedwongen met een leger van mensen, geleid door een meedogenloze kolonel. Nadat de apen onvoorstelbare verliezen lijden, worstelt Caesar met zijn duistere instincten en begint zo zijn eigen mythische queeste zijn soort te wreken. Als de reis hen eindelijk tegenover elkaar brengt, nemen Caesar en Colonel het tegen elkaar op in een episch gevecht dat het lot van zowel hun soort als de toekomst van de planeet al bepalen.
